RESPONSIBILIITY:
PROTECT YOUR COMMUNITY Fire Season is rapidly approaching and weed abatement inspections will start May 1st. Not only do fire prevention measures keep fires from starting, but they reduce hazards that could threaten your property should a wildfire occur. Below are a few tips for weed abatement: 1. Have thirty (30) foot clearances around structures. 2. Trim tree branches six (6) feet off the ground. 3. Remove dead trees and shrubs. 4. Lots one (1) acre or smaller must be disked under. 5. Lots one (1) acre or larger must have firebreaks cross-sectioned into one (1) acre divisions. Breaks must be thirty (30) feet wide, and weeds must be mowed down to no more than six (6) inches in height. 6. Tree branches must be cleared to ten (10) feet from roofs and chimneys. 7. Spark arresters must be provided for all stovepipes. 8. Address must be clearly posted. 9. Clean leaves and pine needles off roofs. Property will be re-inspected thirty (30) days after a notice is sent out. If the weed abatement is not complete, a citation may be issued.
